Educational video games support motivation and encourage engagement in ways that cannot be achieved through traditional learning methods. It is essential to explore game based learning as instructional technologies continue to influence the future of education.

This project investigates the significance and influence three typologies have on the development of successful educational video games for tablet devices. An iPad game, Dan’s Dino Dilemma, has been developed to demonstrate the effectiveness of video games for learning and serve as a template for future educational game design research.

Targeted at learners aged six to nine, Dan’s Dino Dilemma introduces players to the dinosaur kingdom in an exploratory and playful environment.
